Ruckus in Odisha Assembly over suicide of farmer

15 March, Bhubaneswar

The Odisha Assembly witnessed ruckus for the second day Wednesday over the suicide of a farmer in Bargarh district forcing Speaker Niranjan Pujari to adjourn the house thrice during the pre-lunch session.

The trouble started right from the question hour when BJP members rushed to the well and shouted slogan demanding a discussion on the suicide of Hadu Bagarti, a farmer of Kendapalli in Bargarh district, suspending the question hour.

As the house assembled for the day at 1030 hours, BJP member Rabi Nayak first stood up and demanded suspension of the question hour and discussion on the suicide of the farmer. The other BJP members soon trooped into the well of the house, shouted slogans in support of their demand and forcing the Speaker to adjourn the house from 1032 hrs to 1130 hrs.

When the house met after the adjournment at 1130 hours, leader of Opposition Narashingha Mishra urged the Speaker to give ruling on the privilege notice submitted by him yesterday.

In his notice, Mishra demanded action on Agriculture Minister P Maharathy and the officers responsible for misleading the house on the suicide of the farmer which he said is a breach of the house and demanded an inquiry into it by the privilege committee.
