Jammu University bans sale of soft drinks, junk food in Campus

The University of Jammu has imposed blanket ban on sale of soft drinks and junk food in canteens and cafeterias, besides inside the campus of the institution.
an order issued here, Jammu University authorities put a complete ban on sale of cold drinks and junk food in the campus with immediate effect, an official here said.
He said the notification signed by Prof Satnam Kaur, Dean Students Welfare has directed all the eateries inside the campus to stop further sale of junk food and cola drinks, failing which action under rules shall be initiated against them.
The ban, however, came after a memorandum was submitted by ‘YUVA’ (Youth and Vivekananda), a group of university students, wherein the body had requested the authorities to ban all such eatable products in the campus that cause ill effects on the health of students.
”It is a welcome step, but the order should be adhered in letter and spirit and besides this, issues like creation of data source on students health, organising regular orientation programmes on health and creating wellness clusters to provide psychological support and counselling to students regarding proper nutrition and healthy habits must also be enforced,” Anil Acharya, coordinator of YUVA said, post ban on the sale of these products.
