Barkati refuses to quit as Shahi Imam of Tipu Sultan Mosque

Maulana Syed Nurur Rehman Barkati, the Shahi Imam of Tipu Sultan Mosque, in the city today refused to quit as the imam of mosque.

An hour after he was officially removed as the Imam of Tipu Sultan mosque, Barkati told the mediapersons this evening that he will not be accepting the trustee’s decision and is going to continue working as the Imam at the mosque here.

“There is no question of accepting my removal order as I am not an employee of the mosque and I do not take salary from the trust,” Barkati said.

“I will continue my work here as an Imam…,” he added.

Earlier, Barkati was sacked today for ”objectionable and inflammatory remarks against the country.” The trustee Board of Waqf Estate Prince Ghulam Mohammed Shah Committee suspended him with immediate effect.
