Center Asks Karnataka Govt. For Detailed Report On Mysterious Death of IAS Ravi , As JD (S) , BJP Demand CBI probe

Centre Tuesday has asked Karnataka government for a detailed report on the mysterious death of an IAS officer in Bengaluru. It has also asked the state government to probe the matter in depth.

Senior IAS officer D K Ravi was found dead in his apartment near Koramangla in Bengaluru Monday evening.

Meanwhile ,the opposition BJP and JD(S) members in Karnataka Assembly demanded a CBI inquiry into the unnatural death of IAS officer D.K. Ravi.

Moving the adjournment motion in legislative Assembly Tuesday, Leader of Opposition, Jagadish Shetter termed it as a murder, adding that CBI alone can investigate about the threats that the deceased IAS officer would have received from the land developers and underworld dons.

Shetter said, as Additional Commissioner of commercial taxes,Ravi had earned enemies by raiding a few powerful land developers and collected several hundred crore rupees in taxes evaded by them.

He cited several examples of honest officers being transferred or attacked in the state and said that this has forced honest officers not to function freely in the state.

Meanwhile, Bengaluru city police Commissioner M N Reddi told media persons that prima facie it looks like a case of suicide. When asked whether the IAS officer received threat calls, the police Commissioner said at present they don’t see any foul play and there is no information with them about threat calls.

D K Ravi was an honest upright officer known to work very closely with people. While as Deputy Commissioner in Kolar he had recovered encroached lands and lakes and run a crusade against illegal sand mining.

His death has sent shock waves in the state. The PU board has postponed the II PUC exam to be held today.

In Kolar traders closed down their shops voluntarily and the town wore a deserted look in a short span of time. Hundreds of youth took out a rally in the town condemning the death.

Several organisations have called for a Kolar district bundh today. The opposition has asked for a CBI probe and termed the death as mysterious.

Mobs pelted stones at several places in Kolar Tuesday and attacked the residence of local MLA.
