Parliament Passes Railway Budget 2015-16

Parliament has passed the Rail Budget 2015-16 with the Rajya Sabha approving it Tuesday . The Lok Sabha had passed it last week.

Replying to the debate Rail Minister Suresh Prabhu said the money will be spent in such a way on railway projects that itself will generate wealth.

He said the welfare of the railway staff is the utmost priority of the government and there is no plan to retrench them. He said that the freight rates have been rationalised and not increased in the budget.

Prabhu said that all recruitment in the railway will be online. He said that unprecedented increase has been made in the customer services in the rail budget. A large amount has been earmarked for the
states and a nod has been given for joint ventures with the states to address local issues.

The railway minister said that the incomplete projects will be given priority. On members’ demand, he said that sugar free tea will also be provided in the trains. Immediately after approving the Rail Budget,
the Rajya Sabha was adjourned for the day.
