Sri Lanka Releases 34 Fishing Boats Of Tamil Nadu Fishermen

The 145 Tamil fishermen will be returning Wednesday with 34 fishing boats released by Sri Lanka.
Assistant Director Fisheries Gopinath said that the fishermen are expected to come today evening. Sri Lanka had ordered the release of Tamil fishing boats in February ahead of President
Maithripala Sirisena’s visit to India.
More than 145 Tamil fishermen alongwith mechanics and electricians went to Lanka in 20 boats to retrieve their fishing boats. Out of the 87 fishing boats in Lankan custody, only 65 .are in good condition according to fisheries authorities.
Now 34 fishing boats have been retrieved and will be brought to Nagapattinam, Kottaipattinam and Mandapam by Tamil fishermen today evening.
The local fishermen are thanking the state and central governments for the continuous efforts to get back the fishing boats confiscated by Sri Lanka as it had affected their livelihood.
