Centre tells states to take measures for controlling rising prices of onions

29 August, New Delhi

The Centre Tuesday said it is taking measures to bring down prices of onions to a reasonable level to give immediate relief to consumers. In a notification, the government said it has allowed states and union territories to take measures to ensure adequate availability of onions at reasonable prices.

It said states may impose stock limits on onions and undertake various measures like de-hoarding operations, action against speculators and profiteers. This has been necessitated due to abnormal rise in prices of onions though the production and supply in the market is better than last year.
