PIL filed Challenging New Maharashtra Animal Preservation Amendment Act

Public Interest Litigation, PIL, filed in the Bombay High Court has challenged the new Maharashtra Animal Preservation Amendment Act.

The Petition states that the ban on beef and criminalising its sale and possession violates the Fundamental Rights of citizens. The petitioners have said that they are Hindus who consume beef as part of their diet and source of nutrition.

A division bench of Justices V M Kanade and A R Joshi is likely to hear the petition next week. The Act notified earlier this month by the state government bans the slaughter of cows, bulls and bullocks.
