IMA Leadership Trying To Denigrate Ayurveda : CISSA
21 March, Thiruvanathapuram
The Centre for Innovationin Science and Social Action (CISSA) today alleged that the IMA leadership was deliberately trying to denigrate Ayurveda in its representation to the Centre.
In a press release here, strongly condemning the IMA’s stance that the government should desist from main streaming alternate systems of medicine like Ayurveda at the expense of health of the people, CISSA president Dr GG Gangadharan criticised the IMA leadership’s stance calling it narrow-minded, ridiculous, unscientific and something that has been born out of IMA’s ‘colonial hangover.
‘ Recalling the IMA’s representation that had called upon the government to promote and protect the health of people and not to promote any particular alternate system with the limited resources available in the country, Dr Gangadharan said, ‘We cannot wait for Allopathy to grow to the level of Ayurveda to ratify the latter’s scientific veracity.
‘ ‘Allopathy itself is a science which has declared self-insufficiency through its repeated acceptance of newer thoughts. Just about 60 years back, before Freud’s time, Psychiatry was not known to Allopathy.
‘It never thought that mind needed treatment. The entireconcept of Psychosomatic approach to disease emerged inAllopathy only after Freud. Prior to that all mentallychallenged people were consigned to sanatoriums and chainedwith no medicines administered,’ he said.
