Major Fire In Parliament Premises Under Control, No casualty

A major fire that broke out in Parliament premises Sunday afternoon, has been brought under control. As many as 10 fire tenders were rushed to the spot to douse the flames. However, no causalities have been reported so far.

The main Parliament House building itself has not been affected.

Delhi Fire Service director AK Sharma said the blaze was reported to the control room at 1421 hrs. ”At 1438 hrs, the fire officials reached the spot and doused the flames. It appears to have spread in the AC plant room,” he added.

Sharma said there have been no injuries in the fire which broke out inside the Parliament complex and added that the mishap took place due to welding spark.

NDMC worker Ajay Kumar said a short circuit in the AC power unit caused the blaze near the Parliament Visitors Gate number five. The shopkeepers nearby first got alerted when the smoke started billowing from Parliament.

Smoke was seen billowing from above the red sandstone boundary wall of the Parliamentary complex as police tried to clear the streets around the building.
