India invests 60 to 65000 cr to improve suburban services of railway

Mumbai, November 11:

The Centre has invested 60 to 65 thousand crores to improve the suburban services of railway. This was said by Union Minister for Railways, Piyush Goyal after inaugurating the first phase of Nerul-Seawoods and Belapur-Uran Corridor at Kharkopar railway station in Navi Mumbai. The inauguration was done in the presence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union Ministers Anant Geete & Ramdas Athawale.

Stating that the Central government is committed to give convenient environment in suburban railway in Mumbai, Piyush Goyal said, the railways have finished project before the deadline. On Maharashtra Chief Minister’s aim to make the state a trillion dollar economy, Mr. Goyal said he is convinced with the work of the former and hoped that the state government will fulfill this target.

He added that Centre is standing firmly with the state on this front. He also said that in another one year, entire Central Railway network will be would be electrified, adding, that the work is going on in full swing in this endeavour.

He informed that 40 new AC suburban trains have been ordered already. The Minister also shared his experience of travelling in local trains when he was a student and and said he understood the problems faced by rail commuters. Cidco in coordination with Central Railway has developed this corridor on southern part of Navi Mumbai to accelerate the growth of this region.
