Odisha govt to take decision on farmers demand- Behera

Bhubaneswar, November 29:

The Ministerial committee constituted by the Odisha government will take a decision on the three point demands ‘of the farmers after considering the suggestions given by experts and Farmers leaders,Odisha Finance Minister Sashi Bhusan Behera said hereThursday.

Behera who chaired the first meeting of the three member ministerial committee with farmer leaders said the Committee will meet again on December 7 next and the farmers leaders , agriculture experts and various organsiations working for the farmers would be asked to submit their recommendations.

The Committee, he said would take a decision after considering the suggestions and recommendations. The other members of the committee are Agriculture Minister Pradeep Maharathy and Cooperation Minister S N Patro.

The Inter Ministerial Committee under the Chairmanship of the Finance Minister was constituted to look into the demands of the farmers after thousands of farmers under the banner of Naba Nirman Krushak Sangthan (NNKS), an organsiation fighting for the farmers tried to march to the state capital city and stage a demonstration in support of their demands in the first week of this month.

But the government imposed prohibitory orders and prevented the farmers entry to the city.

The NNKS then described the formation of the inter ministerial committee as an eye wash to hood wink the farmers and strongly reacted the police action in preventing the farmers to enter state capital to stage peaceful demonstration.

The farmers had also threatened not to allow the political leaders to enter into the villages.

The farmers have been agitating on three point charter of demands- Price, Prestige and Pension.
