Pakistan Day Function Row : Congress Asks Union Minister VK Singh To quit Instead Of Expressing Disgust

The Congress Tuesday said, the government has displayed insensitivity and lack of understanding in choosing Union Minister V K Singh as emissary for the Pakistan Day function. Party spokesman Abhishek Manu Singhvi said, both the Minister and the government have shown no-confidence in each other.

Singhvi said, after flip flops on Jammu and Kashmir, now lack of credibility can be seen in the central government.

Minister of state for External Affairs VK Singh Sunday had represented the government at the Pakistan Day Function held in New Delhi. He came under sharp criticism from the opposition for attending the function.

Congress leader Manish Tewari also targeted Union Minister V K Singh, asking him to quit instead of expressing his disgust after he represented the government at the Pakistan National Day reception in New Delhi.

Tewari said, in the past, Ministers had refused to attend Pakistan events. He said, when duty becomes a burden, the honourable thing to do is to put in your papers.

He said, after all, Singh had worn uniform and knows what Pakistan has done over the past two decades, sponsoring terrorism. He said, Singh is under no obligation to perform a duty, which disgusts him.

After attending the Pakistan National Day reception at the Pakistan High Commission Monday, Singh had issued a series of tweets, defining disgust and duty. He had told reporters after attending the reception that he was asked by the government to represent it at the function.
