India-Qatar Sign Six MoUs As PM Modi and Emir Hold Delegation Level Talks

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is holding delegation level talks with Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani in New Delhi.

Increasing commercial and economic exchanges and special focus on the Make in India initiative are on the agenda of the delegation level talks between India and Qatar.

The Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani who is on a two-day official visit to India was accorded a ceremonial reception at the forecourt of the Rashtrapati Bhavan this morning.

Hemet President Pranab Mukherjee and Vice President Hamid Ansari in the evening.

Meanwhile, India and Qatar Wednesday signed six pacts of understanding in key areas including Transfer of Sentenced Persons and Radio and Television.

The MoUs were exchanged between External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and her Qatari counterpart Dr Khalid Bin Mohammed Al Attiyah .

Under the agreement on Transfer of Sentenced Persons, Indian prisoners convicted in Qatar can be brought to India to serve the remaining part of their sentence. Similarly Qatari citizens convicted in India can be sent to his home country to serve their sentence.

This agreement will enable the sentenced persons to be near their families and help their social rehabilitation.

The other MoU intends to encourage regular exchange of radio and TV programmes and material between Prasar Bharati and Qatar Media Corporation.
