Countdown Begins For Launch Of India’s Navigation Satellite IRNSS-ID

The countdown began Thursday for the launch of India’s latest navigation satellite IRNSS-1D on board PSLV-C-27 from Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh.

The satellite will lift off on 28th of this month. The Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System, IRNSS would take the country closer to setting up its own navigation system on par with the GPS of the United States.

The 59 -and- half hour count down for PSLV-C-27 IRNSS-1D Mission has started at 05.49 hours this morning.

IRNSS -1D satellite weighing 1,425 kilogram is the 4th regional navigational satellite as part of a constellation of seven satellites to provide accurate position information service to users across the country and the region.

The launch of IRNSS-1D, originally scheduled for launch on March 9, was deferred after an anomaly was found in one of the telemetry transmitters.

IRNSS 1D is the fourth in the series of seven satellites, the space agency is planning to launch to put in place the IRNSS. The first IRNSS series was launched from Sriharikota in 2013.
