PM Modi Appelas Well Offs To Give Up LPG Subsidy

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has appealed the people to give up subsidy on cooking gas who can afford buying LPG at market rates.

Motivating well-offs to give up subsidised LPG, he said over 2 lakh 80 thousand consumers gave up LPG subsidy, resulting in a saving of 100 crore rupees to the exchequer. The Prime Minister said this money will be utilised for the poorest of the poor.

Speaking after launching Give it up movement for LPG subsidy in New Delhi, Prime Minister said one crore households in the country will get pipeline gas connections in the next four years. Modi said now 27 lakh families get pipeline gas connection.

Modi said, the country now imports 77 per cent in coal and petroleum sector to fulfill its energy requirements. He expressed hope that when the country celebrates 75 years of Independence in 2022, the import percentage to be reduced to 67 per cent.

The Prime Minister said innovation, technology upgradation and skill development are essential to march ahead in the energy sector.

Modi complimented ONGC Videsh Limited, Engineers India Limited and Barauni Refinery for completing 50 years. Among others Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Commerce Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Bangladesh power minister Nasrul Hamid were present on the occasion.
