1o Hindu pilgrims Killed In Ashtami Snan Stampede in Bangladesh

In Bangladesh, at least 10 people including seven women, have died in a stampede this morning during ‘Ashtami Snan’ in Langalbandh near Naranganj, about 20 kms from Dhaka. The victims were all above the age of 50 years.

Langalbandh, a Hindu holy place is situated on the banks of the old Brahmaputra river close to the Dhaka-Chittagong highway, and hosts the religious gathering in which thousands of Hindu devotees from India, Nepal and Bangladesh participate in a holy bath.

Naranganj Additional Superintendent of Police Mohammed Jakaria said the police had made security arrangements and were constantly asking the devotees not to throng the site. Police is investigating the cause of the stampede, he said.
