Vishweshwar Hegde elected as K’taka Assembly Speaker
Bengaluru, July 31 :
The six-time MLA from Sirsi Assembly constituency and senior BJP leader Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri was unanimously elected as the new Speaker of the Karnataka state Assembly today.
The post had fallen vacant after the resignation of Speaker Ramesh Kumar on Monday. Deputy Speaker Krishna Reddy proposed the name of Kageri and tabled the motion in the Assembly today. The proposal was unanimously adopted through voice vote.
After getting elected, Kageri was escorted by Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa and Congress legislative party leader Siddaramaiah to the Speaker’s chair. After which members expressed their greetings to the new Speaker.
The House then paid condolence for the passing away of coffee baron Siddhartha whose last rites will be performed in Chickmagalur this evening.
