Rain continues to batter parts of Tamil Nadu

Chennai, December 02 :

Normal to heavy rain continued to batter various parts of Tamil Nadu.

The upper air circulation along with the depression in the Arabian Sea threw normal life out of gear in more than ten districts.

Chief Minister Edappadi Palanisamy is scheduled to visit rain-hit western districts tomorrow.

Due to heavy rainfall in Mettupalayam, four houses collapsed early this morning, killing seventeen people.

The Chief Minister announced an ex-gratia of 4 lakh rupees to the bereaved families.

Educational Institutions in the rain-hit districts remained closed for the day and University examinations have been postponed. Chief Minister Edappadi Palanisamy instructed the district authorities to take necessary steps for immediate support to the farmers who had insured their crops and also appealed to the authorities to include those who had not registered for the insurance.

Revenue Minister R.B.Udayakumar said that the State Disaster Management Authority has been put on high
to immediately rise to the occasion. People living in low lying areas of Cuddalore and Tirunelveli have been housed in relief camps.

The health department has issued advisory to maintain a vigil on the outbreak of diseases. A general appeal has been given to the people to consume boiled water. Control rooms have been set up in rain-hit districts.
