New Delhi, December 10 :
The Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2019 passed in the Lok Sabha after heated discussion at stroke of midnight Monday.
The bill was adopted in the house 311 votes in favour against 80 Noes.
Now the CAB will be introduced in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday by the Home Minister Shah for consideration and passing. Though the NDA Govt. cleared the first hurdle in getting the CAB through, the real test will be in Upper House ,where the ruling party is short of majority.
Earlier in the day the Home Minister Amit Shah introducing the CAB amid opposition from the Congress led UPA allies and the like minded parties,
said it has a long term vision to provide relief to crores of people. Shah said the refugees from Minority communities of neighbouring countries of Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan would be given citizenship under the bill.
After the threadbare-discussion on the provisions of the bill with the participation by the members of all the political party , the Home Minister smashed the fear-mongering opposition. However , the bill got through after series of divisions pressed by opposition members were lost.
With passing of the bill, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his happiness and lauded the Home Minister Shah for the deft handling of the opposition query.
