COVID-19: India reports 1,071 cases, 942 active

As many as 92 new coronavirus cases and four deaths, have been reported in the last 24 hours, said Lav Aggarwal, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, on Monday.

A total of 1,071 cases have been reported across the country so far.

“92 new cases of COVID-19 and four deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours, thus, taking the total number of confirmed cases to 1,071 and the number of deaths to 29 in the country,” Aggarwal told media here.

Citing the increasing number of confirmed cases of coronavirus in other countries, the Joint Secretary said, “In comparison to the developed countries which are smaller in size than India, which is still a developing country with a large population, the number of positive cases for COVID-19 here has been till now only 1,071.”

“People’s support and collective pre-emptive actions like social distancing and lockdown have kept a check on the rise in the number of COVID-19 cases in India,” he added.

The total number of coronavirus positive cases in India has reached 1,071 on Monday, including the foreign nationals, with 942 active cases, the Union Health Ministry said.

29 deaths have been reported in India so far, with highest eight from Maharashtra, followed by Gujarat, having five reported deaths.

“A total of 100 patients have been cured and discharged,” the Health Ministry said.

Among the 27 states and union territories having Coronavirus patients, Kerala has the highest tally of positive cases at 194, followed by Maharashtra at 193.

India has been under a 21-day lockdown due to Coronavirus.

ANDHRA PRADESH :Two new cases of COVID-19 were reported in Andhra Pradesh since Sunday night, taking the total count to 23, officials said on Monday.

Officials said out of the 23 patients, two have recovered. A 65-year-old male with travel history to Saudi Arabia, who was admitted to a hospital in Visakhapatnam on March 17 and tested positive for Covid-19, responded well to the treatment. The patient tested negative on Sunday and Monday.

Visakhapatnam district accounted for the highest number of positive cases (6), followed by Guntur and Krishna (4 each). Three cases each were reported from East Godavari and Prakasam and one each from Chittoor, Kurnool and Nellore.

A total of 29,672 foreign returnees are under surveillance. While 29, 494 are under home isolation, 178 are in hospitals.

RAJASTHAN : Three more people were tested positive for coronavirus in Rajasthan on Monday, taking the tally to 62 in the state.

One of them was reported from Bhilwara and two others in Jaipur, said Additional Chief Secretary, Health, Rohit Kumar Singh on Monday.

Jaipur patients are the mother and the son of a person who earlier tested positive. The patient in Bhilwara was being operated upon at Bangar Hospital whose doctors have also tested positive.

MAHARASHTRA :The number of COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra touched 215 with 12 new testing positive, health officials said here on Monday.

They include five new cases in Pune, three in Mumbai, two in Nagpur, and one each in Kolhapur-Nashik.

The state has so far notched eight deaths, including two patients in their forties, a 40-year old woman from Mumbai, the youngest victim so far, and a 45-year old man from Buldhana, both with no previous history of foreign travel.

The current breakdown is — Mumbai 88, Pune 42, Sangli 25, Thane 23, Nagpur 16, Ahmednagar 05, Yavatmal 04, Satara and Kolhapur 2 each, one each in Nashik, Ratnagiri, Aurangabad, Sindhudurg, Gondia, Buldhana and Jalgaon, besides one from Gujarat.

Against these, 38 patients who have fully recovered have been discharged in the state so far, including from Mumbai, Pune, Yavatmal, Nagpur and Aurangabad.

MADHYA PRADESH: The number of COVID-19 positive cases in Madhya Pradesh climbed to 47 on Monday. Out of these cases, Indore has the majority of positive cases at 32.

Eight cases have been reported from Jabalpur, while Bhopal has confirmed three positive cases. The areas of Shivpuri and Gwalior have reported two cases each.

TAMIL NADU :”17 new COVID-19 positive cases have been reported in Tamil Nadu, bringing the total number of cases in the state to 67,” the Tamil Nadu Health Department said.
