SC Rejects SLP Seeking Summon Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik In Coal Block Allocation Case

The Supreme Court Monday outrightly rejected the Special Leave Petition (SLP) filed by a lawyer who had sought to summon Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in the Talabira II Coal block Allocation Case.

The court observed that the petitioner had no ”locus standi” in the coal scam case.

The division bench comprising Justices V Gopal Gowda and C Nagappan alsoslapped a fine of Rs 1 lakh on the petitioner lawyer, N.K. Sahoo.

Lawyer Suresh Tripathy, appearing for the petitioner lawyer- Sahoo, toldUNI over phone that ” the court felt that the petitioner do not have any locusstandi in the case and thereby it had dismissed the petition.

Tripathy in his petition, submitted before the court that Mr Patnaikwas the main conspirator in the entire coal block scam case. It was also observed by the lower court in its order.

In his petition filed on March 11, Sahoo had told the apex court that aspecial Central Bureau of Investigation court had summoned former PrimeMinister Dr Manmohan Singh, industrialist Kumar Manglam Birla and formercoal secretary P.C.Parakh but Mr Patnaik was not summoned.

He sought that summons be issued against the Odisha Chief Minister on theground that it was his letter to the Union government that had tilted infavour of Birla’s Hindalco in the allocation of the Talabira II coal blockin Sundargarh district.
