India Offers Bangladesh Fresh $1 Bn Line Of Credit For Development Of Road Infrastructure

India has offered Bangladesh a fresh 1 billion dollar line of credit for the development of the country’s road communication and infrastructure.

Bangladesh Finance Minister AMA Muhith told reporters that while Indian authorities offered the soft loan for projects on infrastructure and transport system, Bangladesh is keen on spending some of the money on health and education sectors.

A similar credit line agreement for development of infrastructure and transport sector was signed between New Delhi and Dhaka in 2010 under which 15 projects are being undertaken.

Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs Sujata Mehta told reporters that the fresh line of credit is expected to be finalised during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Dhaka.
