Release of Mumbai Attack Mastermind Lakhvi Challenged In Pakistan Supreme Court
14 April, Islamabad
26/11 Mumbai attack mastermind Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi’s release from prison has been challenged in Pakistan’s Supreme Court. The Punjab government, in its petition, has said that Lakhvi should be detained again.
Lakhvi’s release, after a court declared his detention illegal, has been condemned by India calling it a most negative development for bilateral ties. The release has also been condemned internationally including US, France and Israel.
Lakhvi was arrested in 2009, months after the attack in which 166 people were killed. There has been little progress in the trial since 2009. Monday , the Islamabad High Court asked an anti-terror court to wrap up the trial within two months.
