PM says, a nation becomes self-reliant only when it becomes self-reliant in thinking, practices & resources

New Delhi, November 12:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said the target of Aatmanirbhar Bharat is not limited to physical or material self-reliance. He said, it is dynamic and covers a wide range. Mr Modi said a nation becomes self-reliant only when it becomes self-reliant in thinking, practices and resources.

The Prime Minister was speaking after unveiling the life-size statue of Swami Vivekananda at the campus of Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi via video conference today. He said, it is a matter of immense pride that a Swami Vivekananda statue is being unveiled in JNU and hoped that it will inspire people to realize Swamiji’s dream of a strong and prosperous India.

He wished for the statue to inspire everyone and give the courage which Swami Vivekananda wanted to see in every person. He said this statue should teach compassion, which is the mainstay of Swamiji’s philosophy.

Mr Modi also hoped that the statue inspires the nation for the vision of oneness.  He stated that when there was hopelessness in the entire country, Swami Vivekananda had said in Michigan University in the USA that the 21st century would undoubtedly be India’s. He said, he expects the youth to create a new identity of India in the 21st century.

The Prime Minister said, good reforms were earlier deemed to be bad politics in India. He asked JNU scholars to research on how good reforms turned into good politics now. He stated that reforms that are being done currently only try to make the country better in every way. He added that the core values of the National Education Policy is to build a young India full of confidence, conviction and character. He said this was the vision of Swami Vivekananda as well. Swamiji wanted India’s education to instill  students with confidence and self-reliance.

The Prime Minister said, ideologies should always stand in the nation’s interests. He pointed out that during the Independence struggle and even the Emergency, the country saw the same solidarity. Mr Modi said, he wants the youth of India to never accept any status quos ever without questioning. He asked them to hold debates and have healthy conversation and then reach a conclusion.
