National COVID-19 recovery rate reaches 96.19 per cent

New Delhi, January 04 :

The country’s COVID-19 recovery rate has reached 96.19 per cent as more than 19 thousand COVID patients recovered during the last 24 hours.

Health Ministry said, the total number of recoveries has gone up to over 99 lakh 46 thousand. The actual caseload currently comprises only 2.36 per cent of the total positive cases. Presently, the total number of active cases in the country is around two lakh 43 thousand.
 
During the past 24 hours, 16 thousand 505 new cases were reported taking the total number of positive cases in the country to over one crore three lakh. 214 deaths were also reported during the last 24 hours taking the toll to one lakh 49 thousand 649. Currently India’s Case Fatality Rate is at 1.45 per cent, which is one of the lowest globally.
 
According to Indian Council of Medical Research, more than seven lakh 35 thousand tests were conducted during the last 24 hours. The total number of samples tested so far has reached 17 crore 56 lakh.

Union Health Ministry today said a total of 38 samples have been found to be positive with the new UK variant genome. Ten of these are in NIMHANS, Bengaluru, three in CCMB, Hyderabad, five in NIV, Pune, 11 in IGIB, Delhi, eight in NCDC, New Delhi and one in NCBG, Kolkata. The positive samples are being tested at 10 labs for genome sequencing. All these persons have been kept in single room isolation in designated Health Care facilities by the State Governments. Their close contacts have also been put under quarantine. Comprehensive contact tracing has been initiated for co-travellers, family contacts and others. Genome sequencing on other specimens is going on.

The situation is under careful watch and regular advice is being provided to the states for enhanced surveillance, containment and testing.
