Relief and rescue work underway in full swing in flood-hit areas of Uttarakhand

New Delhi, February   08 :

In Uttarakhand 18 bodies have been recovered so far. 27 people have been rescued from NTPC and Rishi Ganga hydro project. Teams of NDRF, SDRF, SSB, ITBP and Defence personnel are actively participating in the operations. Army and state medical teams with ambulances are engaged to provide the medical facilities in the affected area. The NDRF team reached the spot with the help of Air Force Choppers. Meanwhile, one thousand packets of groceries and other essential commodities are being supplied by helicopter in affected areas.

Chief Minister Shri Trivendra Singh Rawat has said that the rescue teams are searching for the missing people. The Chief Minister said that the DGP has been camping in this area since yesterday.  Commissioner and DIG of Garhwal have also been instructed to camp in the area from today. The entire team of the district administration has been engaged in relief and rescue operations in the area. Officers from other districts have also been sent to the spot so that the reports of post mortem of the  bodies could be obtained soon.

Teams of the district administration, NDRF, SDRF, ITBP, and Defence personnel have been engaged in relief and rescue operations since yesterday. 35 people are expected to be trapped in a tunnel; efforts are being made to evacuate them safely. There is enough human resource on the spot. The Chief Minister said that to find out the cause of  this  mishap , the scientists and experts of ISRO  could be consulted  so that the  adequate  precautions can be taken in future.
