PM Modi Seeks Suggestions From Parliament Members To Find Solution For Farmer’s Problem i

The issue of farmer’s suicide at Aam Aadmi Party Kissan rally against the Land Acquisition Bill in the capital rocked Parliament Thursday .
Making a statement in the Lok Sabha Prime Minister Narendra Modi said all should vow to work together and find a solution for the farmers’ problems. He said the government is committed to do whatever possible for the farmers.
Intervening during a discussion in the Lok Sabha, Modi said Wednesday ‘s incident of a farmer committing suicide is very unfortunate. He said the problem is old, widespread and government will accept all suggestions to prevent such types of incidents in future.
Expressing his grief, the Prime minister said nothing is more valuable than human life.
Replying to a debate on the issue during Zero Hour in the Lok Sabha, Home Minister Rajnath Singh termed the incident as national shame and urged the parties not to politicize it but co-operate with the government to find out a solution of the problem faced by the farmers.
He informed the House that when the farmer, Gajendra Singh, was trying to commit suicide, the police requested people who were gathered to stop applauding and raising slogans but they did not stop.
He said that an FIR has been registered at the Parliament Street police station in this regard and case has been handed over to Crime Branch. He said that government is committed to the welfare of the farmer and has taken several steps in this regard.
Singh also said that though 68 percent of the population is involved in agriculture activity but their total contribution of national income is only 14 percent. This reflects the pathetic condition of farmers instead of politicising the issue the opposition should work with government.
As soon as Lok Sabha met for the day, Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge demanded suspension of the Question hour to discuss the farmer suicide issue. He also demanded a judicial inquiry into the incident and also questioned the role of Delhi Police during the incident.
The Lok Sabha was adjourned till 12 PM. Opposition members in Rajya Sabha also forced adjournment of the House on the issue. The issues were raised on the opening day of the new session of the House. The House was adjourned for fifteen minutes amidst opposition uproar over Land Bill. The matter was raised by Trinamool Congress members and supported by other opposition parties including Samajwadi Party, Left and Congress party.
