PM Modi dicusses with 6 Chief Ministers; says Track, Treat and Vaccinate to contain Covid Pandemic

New Delhi, July 16

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed concern over the Covid caseload in few states. He said, the states reporting high new cases need to take proactive measures to stop the possibility of a third wave of COVID19. Prime minister said in last few days, around 80 percent of new cases have come from six states, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Odisha, Maharashtra and Kerala.

During his interaction with the chief minister of these states today, Mr Modi urged states and UTs to focus on micro containment zones. Stressing on the need to focus on test, track, treat and vaccinate approach, Prime Minister said, the country has fought Covid pandemic with mutual cooperation and united efforts.

He sought cooperation from all to step up measures to prevent third wave. Prime minister reiterated there is need to focus on districts that are reporting high positivity rate. He said, in the last two week, cases are increasing in Europe, US, Bangladesh, Indonesia and Thailand. Mr Modi said, it is a warning sign for the country and to remind all the citizens that Covid 19 has not left us.

Prime Minister highlighted that funds are being made available to all the states for setting up new ICU beds and increasing testing capacity. He referred to the Central government’s announcement of more than 23 thousand crore rupees emergency response package to combat COVID19.

He said, the States must use funds from this package to strengthen health infrastructure. Mr Modi also stressed on the need to focus on rural areas.
