Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar likely to lead new government in Afghanistan: Sources

In Afghanistan, the efforts are on to form a new government. According to Reuters News Agency, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, the Head of the Taliban’s Political Office, will lead the new government. He is likely to be joined by Mullah Mohammad Yaqoob, the son of late Taliban founder Mullah Omar and Sher Mohammad Abbas Stanekzai.

Mullah Baradar, one of the co-founders of the Taliban, was captured in 2010 by security forces in the southern Pakistani city of Karachi. Later he was released in 2018.

The agency report said, that more than two weeks after the Taliban took control of the country, a new cabinet is expected in Afghanistan today.

Meanwhile, the fighting between Taliban forces and fighters loyal to Ahmad Massoud continues in Panjshir Valley. Each side said, it had inflicted heavy casualties. Panjshir is the last Afghan province resisting rule by the Taliban.
