30 April, New Delhi

The Delhi Police has submitted an interim report to the Home Ministry on Gajendra Singh, the farmer who died during Aam Aadmi Party’s recent rally against the land ordinance.

It said that the death was an accident and not a suicide.

The Police said that AAP workers and the crowd instigated Gajendra to climb the tree. Sources said, police came to this conclusion after inspecting the spot, examining the CCTV footage and speaking to eye witnesses.

Reacting to the report, Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi said, whenever there is major incident, police gives a preliminary report to the Home Ministry. Asked whether the organisers of the rally will be questioned, he said, he would not like to speculate who investigating officer will speak to.

He said statements of eyewitnesses are important in any criminal case and the testimony of all those who witnessed the incident and who are available have been taken so far.

Meanwhile, AAP spokesperson Deepak Bajpai has rubbished the report and accused BJP of using the police. He said, the police itself is under scanner and it has no authority in this case.
