Odisha Govt. appoints Justice MM Das to head the Commission to probe Chit Fund scam

Justice MM Das would head the one man panel to carry on the probe to Odisha Multi-crore Chit Fund scam.
Odisha Government Wednesday reconstituted the one man Commission of inquiry by appointing Justice Das as its Chairman seven days after the demise of Justice Radha Krushna Patra on January 28. Justice Das succumbed to pneumonia and heart ailments .
Son of senior lawyer Madhabananda Das Justice Das was elevated to the Bench of Odisha High Court as Additional Judge in 2003 after 29 years of practice at the Bar.
The Government is likely to notify new additional terms of reference soon.
The one-man Commission of Inquiry headed by Justice RK Patra was constituted on July 9, 2013 to hear the complaints of the depositors and take necessary steps for return of their investments. Besides , he was to submit a report on those who have indulged in unauthorized collection of public deposits in the state
However, with the death of Justice Patra in mid-way , the investors were apprehensive of their getting back their hard earned savings with the fraudulent companies.
Justice Patra Commission had received around 10 lakh affidavits relating to their savings , of which about seven lakh affidavits could be examined .
Justice Patra had set up a mechanism with the help of Odisha Computor Application Center (OCAC) to create data base and digitize the records of the affidavits and the process was started to categorize the depositors.
