RS Rocked Over Nitin Gadkari’s family Owning A Private Firm

Adverse findings by Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) on a private firm allegedly belonging to the family of a Union Minister, led to repeated adjournments of the Rajya Sabha in its pre-lunch session Friday .

The issue was raised by Shantaram Naik of the Congress during Zero hour mentions. Demanding the resignation of the Minister for Roads, Highways and Shipping Nitin Gadkari, Congress members trooped into the well forcing the adjournment of the House. Leader of Opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad said the Minister cannot continue in office.

Deputy Chairman P J Kurien ruled that the issue against the minister cannot be raised during Zero Hour. He said the Chair has to protect the interests of the members, who had given prior notices on various other issues. Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said the government is ready to discuss the issue of corruption and requested the Chair to expunge the name of the Minister from the proceedings. As noisy scenes continued, Chairman Mohammed Hamid Ansari adjourned the House till 1430 hours.
