Gujarat HC Quashes Case Against Amir Khan , 4 Others In Filming Of Chinkara

Gujarat High Court has quashed a case against film star Amir Khan and four others in connection with illegal commercial filming of Chinkara- a protected wild life.

It was alleged that protected wild life animal Chinkara was used during the shooting of movie “Lagaan” in Kutch in 2000.

Pronouncing the verdict yesterday, acting Chief Justice of Gujarat high court V. M. Sahay has said that the case of criminal complaint against Khan and others before Chief Judicial magistrate of Bhuj is quashed and set aside.

He said that it is the rarest of the rare case when an FIR was filed on no evidence against accused. It was filed on the basis of imagination of the complainant.

Court observed that no live chinkara was used or was in the possession of the petitioner and the footage of Chinkara in the film was computer-generated.

The state Forest department had filed the complaint against Amir Khan and others for allegedly filming Chinkara during the shooting of film ‘Lagaan’. As per the complaint, Chinkara’s footage was taken without the prior permission of the Forest Department.
