Achal Kumar Jyoti Takes Charges As New Election Commissioner

Former Chief Secretary of Gujarat Achal Kumar Jyoti Wednesday took charge as new Election Commissioner. With this, one of the two vacancies in the three-member Election Commission has been filled up. Jyoti is a retired IAS officer of the 1975 batch.
He earlier worked as managing director, Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Limited and also served as chairman of Kandla Port Trust.
Jyoti will have a tenure of nearly three years, when he will turn 65, the age at which Election Commissioners demit office under the Constitution.
