Odisha Health Minister Naba Kishore Das passes away after being shot at Brajarajnagar in Jharsuguda

Odisha Health Minister Naba Kishore Das, who was shot at by a cop, succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment in a private hospital in state capital Bhubaneswar on Sunday.
Earlier, after being shot at his left chest during a program in Brajarajnagar in Jharsuguda district around noon on Sunday, the 61 year old Das was first admitted at Jharsuguda Hospital. Later he was airlifted to the Apollo Hospital, Bhubaneswar in a critical condition for better treatment.
The Apollo Hospital Bhubaneswar in a statement said,’ Das as admitted with gun shut injuries on his left chest. On operating , was found that a sing bullet had entered and exited the body injuring the heart and lung and causing a massive internal bleeding and injury. The injuries were repaired and steps were taken to improve the pumping of heart . He was given urgent ICU care. But despite best efforts , he could not be revived and succumbed to his injuries.”
According to Deepak Kumar, IG Police Northern Range , the accused, police ASI Gopal Krushna Das on duty, was nabbed soon after he allegedly shot at the minister at point blank range from his service gun when he was alighting from his vehicle to attend a program.
After the postmortem, Das’s body was taken to Odisha Assembly Premises, where members of the assembly paid their last respect. Later late in the evening his body was taken to his native place Jharsuguda to enable his supporters and
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Patnaik has ordered a crime branch enquiry into the incident.
The three time MLA , Naba Kishore Das first elected from Jharsuguda’s seat on Congress’ ticket to the state assembly in 2009. He was re-elected in 2014 again from Congress’ ticket . He later switched over the Biju Janata Dal and was successfully won the seat for record third time in a row contesting the 2019 elections this time from BJD.
He is survived by his wife, son and daughter.
