The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) Rajya Sabha Member Sujeet Kumar on Friday resigned from Rajya Sabha. Later in the day, Sujeet Kumar joinded the BJP at party headquarter in New Delhi.

Sunjeet Kumar is the second BJD Rajya Sabha Member after Mamata Mohanta who tendered her resignation from the Rajya Sabha and also from the primary membership of BJD. Mamata also had joined BJP and later re-elected as BJP Rajya Sabha Member in the by-elections last month.
In his resignation letter to Rajya Sabha Chairman, Sujeet Kumar wrote, “I do hereby tender my resignation from the membership of Rajya Sabha. I have taken this decision consciously.”

Shortly after he resigned from the Rajya Sabha, the BJD promptly issued an order expelling Sujeet Kumar with immediate effect for ‘anti-party activities’.”He has left down the party which sent him to Rajya Sabha and hopes and aspirations of people of Kalahandi,” BJD’s official order said.

Sujeet joined the BJP in the presence of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Cuttack MP Bhartruhari Mahtab, BJP Odisha In-Charge Vijaypal Singh Tomar, and other dignitaries.

In his reply, Sujeet Kumar said , “Joining a significant national party today fills me with joy. The vision for a Vikshit Bharat and Odisha has been a great inspiration. I extend my congratulations to the entire BJP team”.
“Today, I Have resigned from the Rajya Sabha membership. I was honoured to be elected to the Rajya Sabha in 2020 representing BJD. My gratitude goes to the former Chief Minister of Odisha, Naveen Patnaik, for this opportunity.
However he said,”I resigned from BJD due to the lack of expected development in Kalahandi, which I attribute to the corruption among the district’s BJD leadership and external influences. Despite efforts to alert the senior leaders, it proved futile.’.
