Centre will increase number of airports, water aerodromes & heliports to 200 in next 5 years : Jyotiraditya Scindia

New Delhi, December 19

Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia today asserted that the Centre will increase the number of airports, water aerodromes, and heliports to 200 in the next five years to boost air connectivity in the country. Currently, the number is 145.

Replying to supplementaries during the Question Hour in the Rajya Sabha, he said the country had only 74 airports till 2013-14 and in the last eight years the number of airports, water aerodromes and heliports have increased to 145.

He said that the plane fleet have increased from 400 earlier to 700 at present. He said, around 100 planes will be acquired every year and the number is expected to reach 1200 in the next five years.
