India recover from the brink to defeat Bangladesh, clean sweep test series

Dhaka, December 25

India recovered from the brink to defeat Bangladesh by 3 wickets to win the 2nd and final test of the 2-match series at the Shere Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur, Dhaka on Sunday. Chasing the score of 145, India resumed the day from a bleak 45-4 in the second innings on the fourth day of the match requiring 100 runs for the victory. However, the scare set in when India lost three more wickets to reach 74-7 with the pair of Shreyas Iyer and Ravichandran Ashwin on the crease.

The two batsmen saved the Indian side and coasted it to a three wicket win with 71 run partnership for the 8th wicket. Shreyas remained unbeaten at 29 off 46 balls, while Ashwin scored 42 off 62 balls helped by a spilled catch by Mominul Haque when he was at 1. In India’s  first innings score of 314 also, Shreya Iyer made a powerful 87 off 105 balls.

The victory at Dhaka gave India a clean sweep of 2-0 against Bangladesh in the two match series after losing the one-day series 2-1 to the host country earlier.

Mehidy Hasan Siraj gave a superb performance with the ball claiming five wickets for 63. R Ashwin garnered 6 wickets in the match and was adjudged player of the match.  Cheteshwar Pujara was honoured with the player-of-the-series award for scoring 222, which included a century.
