India sets target at 362.5 million tonnes of food grain production for next FY : Shivraj Singh Chouhan
New Delhi, September 16
Union Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced that the national target for food grain production has been set at 362.50 million tonnes for the 2025-26 Rabi season. Mr Chouhan announced this in a press conference in New Delhi after he chaired discussions with state agriculture ministers during the National Conference on Agriculture – Rabi Campaign 2025.
The Minister noted that this year’s target is 2.4 per cent higher than the food grain production achieved in 2024-25. He assured that adequate seed stocks are available to meet the country’s requirements.
The Minister highlighted that the conference’s theme, One Nation, One Agriculture, One Team, reflects a significant move towards strengthening coordination and partnerships in the agricultural sector. Emphasising the need for greater focus on pulses and oilseeds, Mr Chouhan stated that a roadmap will be developed to enhance yields with special emphasis on per-hectare productivity.
He also announced that Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan will begin from the 3rd of October for Rabi crops. He added that over 2,000 teams of scientists will visit villages to provide farmers with timely knowledge and guidance.
