No decision on preparation of National Register of Indian Citizens at national level: Centre

New Delhi, August 10

The Union Government today said that it has not taken any decision to prepare the National Register of Indian Citizens (NRIC) at national level.

In a written reply to the Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai said, the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 aims to facilitate grant of citizenship to migrants belonging to Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi or Christian community from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan who entered into India on or before 31st December 2014.

Mr Rai said, the Act has come into force with effect from 10th of January last year.
