Odisha : BJD wins Jharsuguda assembly by-election

Bhubaneswar, May 13

The ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) registered a thumping victory in the Jharsuguda assembly by-election in Odisha. BJD candidate Dipali Das defeated her nearest BJP rival Tankadhar Tripathy by 48,721 votes, the Election Commission said.

Das secured a total of 1,07,198 votes, while Tripathy bagged 58,477 votes. Congress candidate Tarun Pandey came third with 4,496 votes..

The Congress candidate Tarun Pandey lost his deposit.

The assembly by-poll was necessitated following the killing of Naba Kishore Das, a Cabinet minister in the Naveen Patnaik government and also the father of Dipali Das.

The former Health Minister  Das  was  assassinated  in January allegedly by a police officer
