Ranchi: Special CBI court convicts RJD chief Lalu Prasad in final case of fodder scam; quantum of punishment to be announced on 21st Feb

RJD Chief Lalu Prasad Yadav convicted in the fifth and last case of multi-crore Fodder Scam has been shifted to RIMS paying ward from Hotwar Jail this evening. A team of doctors have investigated Lalu’s health in Hotwar jail.
Lalu Prasad will remain in the special paying ward at RIMS due to his medical condition. A special CBI court in Ranchi today has convicted Lalu Prasad Yadav in the final case related to fraudulent withdrawal of more than 139.35 crores rupees from Doranda Treasury in Jharkhand.
Prabhat Kumar, Lalu Prasad Yadav’s lawyer told AIR News that 36 people have been sentenced to three years in Fodder Scam. Lalu Prasad Yadav has been convicted, the sentence has not been pronounced yet by Special CBI court. Sentencing will be heard on February 21, we have requested Court that Lalu Prasad Yadav’s health is not well, hence the jail authority should be directed to shift him to RIMS.
The special court acquitted 24 other accused of lack of evidence. The court shall pronounce its final judgment in Lalu Prasad’s case on February 21. Earlier in the day, the court had sent RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav to judicial custody in Hotwar jail.
Meanwhile, all 99 accused in the last case of Fodder scam have not shown up physically in the court. Special CBI court judge SK Shashi had ordered Lalu Yadav and the other 99 accused to physically appear in the court.
Lalu Yadav has been convicted in four out of five cases related to the multi-crore fodder scam. This scam happened when Lalu Yadav was the Chief Minister of Bihar before the formation of Jharkhand.
