Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam visits heritage Village Raghurajpur and Konarm Sun Temple in Odisha

The president of Singapore Tharman Shanmugaratnam accompanied by his wife Jane Yumiko Ittogi visited the heritage village of Raghurajpur village and the 13th century world famous Sun Temple at Konark in Puri district of Odisha on Saturday .
They explored the rich heritage craft and artisanal diversity of Odisha.
President Tharman interacted with local artisans specialising in the Pattachitra art and praised their intricate craftmanship at Raghurajpur. He wanted to know the intricacies of Pattachitra Paintings and a purchased two Pattachitra paintings on various themes of Ramayana and Lord Ganesh from the artists.
Tharman was also presented painting by a young artist featuring the Singapore President and the first Lady.
He also toured various landmarks in the village including the exhibition center, Anganwadi Center and health centre before proceeding to Konark.
At Konark , President Tharman first visited the IOCL Interpretation Centre .He also visited the Sun Temple guided by the representatives from Archaeological Survey of India , which is in charge of the protection of the 13th Century heritage.
Detailed insights into the temple’s historical and architectural significance were provided. The visiting Singapore delegation also explored the temple complex.
In a post on X, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated, “Experiencing the cultural heritage of India. President @Tharman_S of Singapore visited the beautiful Raghurajpur village of Odisha, exploring its heritage craft and artisanal diversity.”
On Friday, eight Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) were exchanged between Odisha and various Singaporean entities to strengthen collaboration in key sectors, in the presence of Tharman.
Tharman Shanmugaratnam also visited the crafts museum in Odisha Friday and appreciated the “vibrant cultural display” at Kalabhoomi. Odisha Governor Haribabu Kambhampati was also present on the occasion.
