13 terrorists sentenced to 5 years imprisonment

A Special Court hearing NationalInvestigating Agency (NIA) cases, today sentenced 13 terrorists,accused in the Bengaluru-Hubballi terror module case to five years imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 7000 eachon them.

Special Court Judge Muralidhar Pai had convicted them yesterday.

All the accused had pleaded guilty. The terrorists wereconvicted under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) includingthose relating to criminal conspiracy, promoting enmity betweendifferent religious groups, attempt to murder. They were also found guilty under the provisions of the UnlawfulActivities Prevention Act and Arms Act.

The convicted people were Syed Tanzeem Ahmed of Bengaluru, DrImran Ahmed of Bengaluru, Dr Nayeem Siddiqui of Davanagere, Ubaid UrRehman of Hyderabad, Shoaib Ahmed Mirza alias Chotu of Hubballi,Abdul Hakeem Jamdar of Hubballi, Riyaz Ahmed Byahatti of Hubballi,Zafar Iqbal Sholapur of Hubballi, Mohammed Sa diq Lashkar ofHubballi, Mehaboob Bagalkot of Hubballi, Baba alias Mehboob Bagalkotand Wahid Hussain alias Saahil.

The terror module was busted with the arrest of two bike-borneyouths in August 2012. The duo were allegedly on a mission to kill aprominent person in west Bengaluru.
