31 March, Patna

At least 15 people were killed Monday when they were struck by lightning in separate incidents in different parts of Bihar.

13 casualties were reported from Kosi region and eastern part of state. Two persons were killed in Patna and its nearby areas. Nalanda, Jehanabad and Munger districts were affected besides large parts of Seemanchal districts, Madhubani, Darbhanga and Purnea.

Heavy rain accompanied by strong winds uprooted trees, damaged houses and brought down power cables across the state. Crops of wheat and maize, which were ready for harvesting, were damaged by the unseasonal rain and wind spell in different districts.

Many farmers had brought in harvesting machines to reap the crop but the rain has dampened their spirit.
