60 leave CPI-M in Tripura, join BJP
09 April, Agartala
Sixty CPI(M) leaders and supporters of Belonia in South Tripura that left the party and joined the BJP.
BJP state president Biplab Deb said that 26 Congress leaders who left the party yesterday in Khowai had also expressed desire to join the BJP. Apart from them, another group of CPI-M and Trinamool Congress also contacted the BJP, he said.”Both CPI-M and Congress leaders who left their respective parties made it clear that the leaders were not concerned about the sufferings of the grassroots level workers. They have been enjoying all amenities in mutual understanding for past many years and in West Bengal it is disclosed,” Deb said.
He, however, pointed out that common people and grassroots level workers and supporters of CPI-M and Congress had lost faith on the parties for corruption, criminalization, nepotism, nexus with banned outfit and helping them in the name of rehabilitation.”Nowhere in the country except Tripura, were the riot and insurgent victims deprived from rehabilitation benefits. Instead, the state government provided good packages to the militants who surrendered but nothing to the victims.Even opposition Congress never protested it,” Dr Deb pointed out.
He further stated that insurgency in Tripura was created and nurtured by both CPI-M and Congress since 1980 for their political benefit. The judicial commission headed by Justice M Yusuf in his report on assassination of former health minister from CPI-M Bimal Sinha stated it clearly, he said.
“Unless the CBI comes the actual culprits will not be booked. I shall talk on the matter with the union home minister and also plan to move the high court demanding re-investigation of Sinha’s case by the CBI,” he added.
The BJP during the day blocked NH 44 demanding arrest of a CPI-M cadre who allegedly assaulted and raped a tribal lady last month for contesting on a BJP ticket in the just concluded village council election of Tripura tribal autonomous district council. The party has given two days time to Superintendent of Police, Khowai district to book the accused.
