EC Expresses Displeaure Over Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Rout’s Remark on Muslims

Election Commission has conveyed strong displeasure at Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut’s remarks that Muslims should be stripped of voting rights.
In its order, the Commission advised him to be more circumspect in future in his public utterances. Rejecting the MP’s explanation, the poll body said, by making such remarks he has violated the provisions of the election code.
It observed that the statement is violative of the Constitution which provides that no person will be ineligible for inclusion in electoral rolls on grounds of religion, race, caste and sex.
A person from Pune had flied a compliant with the Commission against Sena leader alleging that the statement is prejudicial to maintenance of harmony and is likely to cause disharmony, feeling of hatred and ill-will among the citizens of the country.
