Cochin International Airport Plans To Pump In Rs.1600 Cr For Development Projects

The Cochin International Airport (CIAL), the first green field airport in the country built with public-private partnership was planning to pump in about Rs 1600 crore towards various development projects.

Speaking about the future plans, CIAL founder Managing Director and Additional Chief Secretary V J Kurian said our goal was to equip the CIAL to take up any challenges in the aviation sector that will take place during the next 20 years.

Stating that the new International terminal, being constructed at a cost of over Rs 1000 crore, was progressing rapidly and an action plan for environmental friendly development had already been formulated, he said it was expected that the new terminal, with a total space of 15 lakh sq feet and equipped with all international facilities, would be dedicated to the nation by May 2016.

Regarding the power generation, Kurian said the CIAL was nearing to its goal of functioning the airport with solar energy and added that steps were already been taken to set up a 12 mw solar plant in the airport.
