24 May, New Delhi

The Aam Aadmi Party MLAs have alleged that Centre’s notification giving absolute powers to the Lt Governor in appointment of bureaucrats is violation of the federal structure.

The party on Sunday held a legislative meet at Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s residence ahead of the two-day long emergency session of Delhi Assembly starting Tuesday. Senior party leaders were also present in the meet.

Talking to media after the meeting, party MLA , Alka Lamba said AAP has also kept the legal route open. She said party will go to the Court if Assembly takes a decision to do so.

Party leader Sourabh Bharadwaj said the notification brought by the Centre is not only unconstitutional but also against the basic principles of democracy.

Delhi cabinet, presided by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, on Saturday had decided to hold the special session to discuss the Home Ministry notification.

The notification issued on Friday gave absolute powers to the LG in appointment of bureaucrats. It also clarified that the LG need not consult the chief minister on subjects like the police and public order.

The Anti-Corruption Bureau of Delhi Government has also been barred from registering any case against officers and political functionaries of the central government.
